Golf-related issues - developments, proposals, deals, concerns

Golf-related tourism is now high on the political agenda. Near St Andrews, large tracts of land are being given over to exclusive golf-related complexes for executive 'incentive' holidays.

Those of us who live near the 'home of golf' may benefit (jobs, new leisure facilities), but we may also stand to lose (pressure on infrastructure, loss of affordable housing, loss of access to preferred walks and golf courses, decline in traditional tourist trade).

Non-golfing visitors, by far the largest contributors to our local economy, may chose, or be forced, to stay well clear of the area.

Casual golfing visitors (without the benefit of packaged deals) may find it hard to organise an affordable game at a reasonable time, anywhere near St Andrews.
